Publishing News

Stardust by Neil Gaiman was #2 paperback on May Locus Bestsellers list and #7 on Barnes and Noble/B. Dalton list in same issue.

Not Exactly the Three Musketeers by Joel Rosenberg was #7 paperback on May Locus Bestsellers list and #10 on Waldenbooks list in same issue.

Patricia Wrede's Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace (the juvenile novelization) was #13 selling young adult trade paperback of the year (at 535,000 copies), per Publisher's Weekly (April 10th) article as reported in Locus.

Neil Gaiman's The Dream Hunters won the 1999 Stoker Awards nominee for best Comic Book/Graphic Novel/Illustrated Narrative.

John Berkey is a 1999 nominee for the "Chesley" Award for Artistic Achievement.

Macalester student Lena DeTar was both Second Runner-Up and an Honorable Mention (different stories) in the 2000 Isaac Asimov Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Science Fiction and Fantasy Writing.

Nominees for the HOMer Awards (Compuserve) include Lois McMaster Bujold's A Civil Campaign (novel); Eleanor Arnason's "Stellar Harvest" (novelete) and Neil Gaiman's "Goliath" (short story)

1999 Tiptree Award committee's "recommended reading" list includes Eleanor Arnason's "The Actors" and "Dapple;" Lois McMaster Bujold's A Civil Campaign; and L.A. Taylor's The Fathergod Experiment.

Lois McMaster Bujold sold a new Vorkosigan novel to Baen and a two-book fantasy to Eos, per May Locus.

May Locus also has notes on sale of Japanese, French and Bulgarian rights to various Bujold books, and on sale of Czech and Polish writes to Joel Rosenberg titles.

May Locus also has a story on problems of several writers, including Peg Kerr, in combatting a Russian website posting her work without permission.
