From einblatt-list@mnstf.org Sun Sep 5 19:25:37 2021 Date: Sun, 05 Sep 2021 17:25:16 -0700 From: Einblatt Subject: Einblatt Current (September 2021) Ah, September. The start of Fall, and one month away from the best holiday of the year. Welcome to the September 2021 Einblatt. Sorry it's late, I got my second dose and it's been giving me some brain fog, including as I write this very sentence. If I leave anything out, lemme know and I'll look into an addendum. Queen of Swords Press wants you to know that the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand announced the winners of the Sir Julius Vogel Awards on 8/7 and The Voyages of Cinrak the Dapper by A.J. Fitzwater, published by Minnesota press Queen of Swords, won Best Collection. Ruth Berman has a poem, "Practical Magic," in The Avalon Literary Review, Summer 2021. Print (paper) publication, but the magazine's website is www.avalonliteraryreview.com Wonderlust Productions is hosting a Sci-Fi play series called Hopscotch from yesterday to the 12th. Tickets are pay-what-you-want (including free), and you can learn more about it here: https://wlproductions.org/events-2/hopscotch/ On September 7th, Jillian Peterson and James Densley are presenting 'The Violence Project: How to Stop a Mass Shooting Epidemic.' You can learn more about the event here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jillian-peterson-james-densley-present-the-violence-project-tickets-166185596593 September 9th observes Lori M Lee and her new book 'Pahua and the Soul Stealer' with Rick Riordan. You can learn more about their event here: https://www.redballoonbookshop.com/event/lori-m-lee-pahua-soul-stealer-rick-riordan On the 16th, Catherine Dang is having a virtual launch for her book 'Nice Girls.' You can register for the event here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/catherine-dang-launches-nice-girls-tickets-165032720309 September 27th sees Natasha Lester presenting her book 'The Riviera House,' in conversation with Kate Quinn and her book 'The Rose Code.' You can regsiter for that event here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/natasha-lester-presents-the-riviera-house-tickets-166693612081 Red Balloon Bookshop also has a bunch of other events from the 9th all the way to November 10th, which you can see here: https://www.redballoonbookshop.com/event-list Next Mnstf meeting is on 9/11 and will be in the Wabun Picnic Area of Minnehaha Falls. Further info: "Combination Minnstf picnic and Minicon meeting! Picnic starts at 4pm, Minicon meeting will probably start at 5pm. This event counts towards qualification for voting membership (but it only counts once, despite the fact that there is both a Minnstf meeting and a Minicon meeting). Note that while this picnic is at Minnehaha Falls Park it is NOT at the location we have been using there for the past 10 years or so. We are back at the Wabun Picnic Area from years ago, between the Veterans Home and Lock and Dam Number One. Technically it is at the very end of 46th Avenue South, but my recollection is that it feels more like you're heading down the driveway of the Veterans's Home. Check your map before you leave. One of the great things about it is that it has its own parking lot that is not convenient to the falls overlook area so less contention for parking even when other events are going on at the park. Speaking of other events, Pagan Pride Day is happening in the bandshell area of the park that same day. If you want to make it a double-header, the Pagan Pride activities are rumored to start in the morning and wind up about the same time our picnic starts. Win win!" Kevin Austin is hosting a virtual Mnstf meeting on the 25th on our Discord server. You can join the server here: https://discord.gg/HQBtdpw. Decongestant is also unfortunately canceled.
