Raphael Carter's story Congenital Agenesis of Gender Ideation is the recipent of the 1998 James Tiptree, Jr. Award. It appeared in Starlight 2 (ed. Patrick Nielsen Hayden; Tor Books, 1998). Runners-up included Eleanor Arnason's The Gauze Banner (from More Amazing Stories) and the novel Halfway Human by Carolyn Ives Gilman (Avon Eos, 1998).

Locus Bestsellers list for Feb.99 includes Dragon by Steven Brust (#4 hardcover), Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman (#5 hardcover), and Neverwhere by Gaiman (#1 paperback). Dragon was also #4 hardcover on the Amazon.com list reported in same issue and #9 hardcover on both the B&N/B.Dalton and the Waldenbooks lists; Neverwhere was also #4 paperback on the Waldenbooks list.
