Daniel Panshin, a St. Paul resident, died November 17. Visitation will be Friday, December 5 from 5-8pm at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, 901 Portland Avenue, St. Paul MN 55104 An oceanographer & later an administrator in the U of MN's Center for Bioethics. He was the brother of sf writer Alexei Panshin.

The Minn-StF Board has been informed that Joel and Matt have no interest in running Minicon 51. As such, we are soliciting bids to run Minicon 51. Bids should include enough budget to allow for rates to be set so as to allow for memberships to be purchased at Minicon 50, a timeline of events for the year, and qualifications of the Chair / Co-Chairs and any other currently known committee members.

The Minn-StF Board is soliciting bids for FallCon 2015.

Publishing News

Scott Lynch's The Republic of Thieves was #3 pb and Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane was #2 tp on the November LOCUS Bestsellers list; the latter was also #3 tp on the Barnes & Noble/B. Dalton list in the same issue.

Demonstra by Bryan Thao Worra won the "Best Full-Length Book" Elgin Award of the Science Fiction Poetry Association.

New Eleanor Arnason collection Hidden Folk: Icelandic Fantasies (tp) now reportedly out from Many Worlds Press, which is also about to do reprints of her novels The Sword Smith; Daughter of the Bear Clan; and To The Resurrection Station.

Forthcoming title from Aqueduct Press, Prince of the Aquamarines by Louise Cavalier Levesque, is translated and introduced by Ruth Berman.

Recently published stories by Marissa K. Lingen: "Emma Goldman: A Biography for Space Aliens" in Daily SF for 20 October; "The New Girl" in Apex for 4 November; and "Boundary Waters" in Nature for 6 November.

Local Publisher: mixed story collection (some fantasies) See You in Paradise by J. Robert Lennon now out from Graywolf Press (tp).

Searchers after Horror ed. S.T. Joshi (hc, 2014) is the latest release from former local publisher Fedogan & Bremer, and is illustrated by former local Rodger Gerberding.

Allan Kornblum (1949-2014) founder of local publisher Coffee House Press (which has produced several books of sf/f interest, as did his earlier Toothpaste Press), died in St. Paul on 23 November.
