This is a transcription of paper minutes done by Matt Strait in 2020. The intent was to transcribe exactly without corrections, however I may certainly have introduced new typos or inadvertently corrected some. Where I have noticed typos, I have marked them with "[sic]". Other text in square brackets is in the original. Note: A summary of these minutes appears in RUNE 70. It reads: 'At their second meeting, the board discussed the "editorial policy...copy editing, and printing" of RUNE. "All agreed that CENSORSHIP IS NOT A GOOD THING. John (Bar- telt) said that they would try to stay within the bounds of reason...The budget (of $1250 for 3 more issues in 1982) was passed, four yes and one abstention." They al- so approved $2000 seed money for Minicon; discussed mailing lists, the use of the mailing permit, plans to move the Minn-Stf library, and the archives. "A search will be made for the mythological complete set of RUNE."(I'd like to see that too.)' ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Second Meeting of The 1982/1983 Minn-STF Board The meeting of the Minnesota Science Fiction Society Board was held at 8:15, April 20,1982 in the home of Judy Cilcain. Those present were; Board members Don Bailey, Judy Cilcain, Scott Imes, Karen Johnson and Kate Worley; Rune editor John Bartelt; and corresponding secretary Virginia Nelson. Pieces of business discussed during the evening were; 1)Rune, 2) Minicon, 3) Mailing permits, lists and labels, 4) The convention which takes place in the autumn, and 5) Minn-STF library and Archives. 1) Rune A great deal of time was used discussing the Rune publishing dates, budget and editorial policy. John Bartelt introduced the Rune schedule and budget. This included three issued during the rest of 1982; two normal issues in June and November and a special offset edition in August. The title of the offset edition may be "Sci-Fi People Weekly" and be patterned after People magazine. Hopefully extra copies can be offered for sale at World-con. The budget for the rest of the year would be as follows -- $526.00 -- regular edition, both $450.00 -- offset edition, one $225.00 -- mailing costs $ 49.00 -- misc ------------------------------ $1,250.00 -- total The budget was voted on after the editorial policy was discussed. Some of the topics covered were; shelling out extra money for mailing and not getting much for it, the Kiss Kiss issue, the letters column in the second issue, the meaning of the 'thing on dolls', copy editing and printing. All agreed that CENSORSHIP IS NOT A GOOD THING. John said that they would try to stay within the bounds of reason and exercise more editorial control. The budget was passed, four yes and one abstention. 2) Minicon A number of topics were covered. Hopefully excerpts from the log could be published in Rune. Minicon will have made money, just barely, if the rest of the t-shirts can be sold at the current price. Volunteer forms should be gotten out now. $2000.00 should be adequate as seed money for next year's Minicon. The seed money was voted upon, five yes. 3) Use of Minn-STF mailing permits, lists and labels There was some discussion as to whether the procedures for using the mailing permit were secure enough. There have been no real problems yet, but his aria [sic] may be looked into with the idea of making it more secure without binding the hands of the people who should be using the permit. The mailing list(s) seem to exsist [sic] in a great many places. It would be nice if there was a master list in a computer. Some of the list is in an apple computer. More labels are needed for it. John said that Rune has extra three-across lables [sic]. The computer only takes one-across labels. 4) The convention which will take place in the autumn The name may be changed. [The name was changed to Plergb con on 5|4|82] Last year's board set the mailing list limit at 500 names. Expected attendence [sic] was 250,(max?) The budget was $700.00. Financial materials should be retrieved from Gerri Balter. 5) Minn-STF library and archives We have a more accessable [sic] location for the Minn-STF library. It has to be moved from its old location. We have to make things happen (as soon as the weather gets better. The archives is a filing cabinet and its contents. There was some discussion about what exactly the archives should contain. A search will be made for the mythological complete set of Rune. The next meeting has been set for June 15,1982, unless something comes up sooner. Submitted by, Virginia Nelson ------------------------------------------------------------------------
