Matt Strait typed up these minutes from a paper copy in 2020. No OCR was involved. Original errors, if any, are lovingly retained. Additional errors may have been introduced. Below the second line of equal signs below is an abbreviated version of the minutes that we displayed online for a long time prior to 2020. Matt doesn't know exactly where they came from. The long version (between the two rows of equal signs) is the official version, but the short version is retained in case it is useful somehow. ================================================================================ Minn-STF Board of Directors - - minutes - - meeting of July 20, 1989 at the Karen Johnson home. Minneapolis Public Library Request from Laura and Kara relayed to the Board The Minnesota Festival of the Books at Southdale Library on October 3, 1989 will include five of the Scribblies and Joel Rosenberg on a panel. This is a request to run the panel under the auspices of Minn-STF. There was a secondary request for a food expenditure for the panel. The Board placed its blessing on the panel and alloted a $30 expenditure for food supplies. Elise wondered about doing something at this festival to bring attention to Science Fiction. Lee Pelton request presented by Mark Richards He is asking us for the one true mailing list for "Congenial", his personal fanzine "Private Heat", and to update his mailing list. This request does not fall within Minn-STF guidelines. Information for ongoing maintenance of address infor- mation is not given out. Minn-STF dos not allow for a permanent release of this information. An explanation of the Minn-STf guidelines needs to be given to Lee in relationship to his request and have him change his request. Mark Richards will write a letter to explain the guidelines. The guidelines are a one time only use with no copies and not for use on a per- sonal mailing list. Parties fanzine - Peter Hentges. He is publishing a Parties Fanzine and wishes to use the bulk mailing permit or if the costs don't work out putting the mailing in as a line item in the parties budget. This fanzine is expected to to increase the volunteer pool. There is an intention to publish a mini-zine for inclusion in the registration packets for the convention. Financing is left to the MiniCon budget. A decision was made to publish this under Minn-STF auspices, as a Minn-STF publication, with use of postage meter and mailing lists. "Is it thereto or thereunto? Thereunto is longer and therefore better." Complaint - DDB DDB wasn't aware of TOTU budget approval and complained and got an explanation. Treasury report The books are up to date. The checkbook has been balanced. The treasurer has requested the money from last years Fallcon. There is now $1073.01 in the checkbook. Request from Ruth Berman by Elise. Ruth would like the Board to help see that her publications get listed in Einblatt. Einblatt will work harder at getting them in and not misplaced. Fall-Con report - Scott Raun "Confection" has a signed contract with the Normandy. One true mailing list, postage meter - Scott Raun One true amiling list will need an update and the postage meter needs money. Art Show - Don Bailey The Art Show needs more panels made up to get a decent display. What is needed is an additional row - six panels. The cost is approximately $120. Don has an idea for volunteers to help build them. A request was made that the assembly instructions be written out along with the compatibility and inventory. The $120 expenditure was passed with one abstention. Minicon 24 Art Show - Elise. Some complaints from artists about the wrong amounts on their checks. An accounting was not sent with the checks. Don Bailey will obtain the records and deal with this. An accounting will be sent out. If there is a shortage a letter of apology will accompany the check with the legal interest rate or $2 late fee, whichever is greater. An explanation of the extra money will be included. The next meeting will be August 24, 1989 at 7:30 PM at the home of Elise Krueger. 992 Chatsworth North St. Paul, MN. 55103 487-1033 The meeting ended at 9:30 PM.
