Heideman. [Apologies of the Temporary Recording Secretary to anyone in attendance whose presence he has failed to recall.] The meeting was called to order about 7:57, Board member Don Bailey not having arrived; Elise relays to Don's answering machine: "Please come! All is forgiven!" Eric [yours truly] is drafted [_JUST_FOR_THIS_MEETING_] to take notes. Q.: has anybody talked to anybody about being Recording Secretary? Karen reports that Polly Peterson said she would do it in an emergency, but is already overworked. [Editorial from Eric: she's already overworked! Don't draft her!] The possibility of asking Mitch Pockrandt is raised. Elise: "Mitch is a frighteningly calm person." Eric: the Lecture Series forum on "The Minnesota SF Community," October 20, is proceeding nicely. Participants will he [were]: Joe Ages, Eleanor Arnason, Ruth Berman, Bruce Bethke, Emma Bull, Eric M. Heideman, Greg Ketter, John J. Koblas, Laura Krentz, David Lenander, Victor Raymond, Joel Rosenberg, John Sladek, Frank Stodolka. Eric hands out a proposed budget for _Tales_of_the_ _Unanticipated_ #9 & #10. #8 will be out in mid-to-late November, if all goes smoothly. [Make that early-to-mid-December.--EMH] He suggests bringing #9 & #10 out at "eight-month-intervals," allowing #9 to come out in mid-to-late August, 1991, in time for Chicon, and #10 to come out in early April 1992, in time for Minicon. The report suggests that, while an effort will be made to hold the per-issue budget at $2,500 (where it's been since #5), between typesetting, printing, mailing, and miscellaneous expenses, things are likely to take inflationary leaps putting the per-issue budget into the $2,700 range. Requests, therefore, that the per-issue grant be raised from $1,000 to $1,200 (about the same as the per-issue budget for _Rune_) for #9 & #10. This is discussed, but the Board declines, as yet, to make a decision on grant size. Rob: "It's nice to give us advance notice; come and talk to us again when it's closer to the time." The go-ahead is given for the new "eight-month-intervals" schedule, but _TOTU_ should come back and talk about the grant in 1991, when the money's needed. Corey Brust reports on plans for the 1990 Fallcon. It will be [was] held November 2-4, 1990, in the Bradbury Suites of Normandy Inn, Bloomington. Corey: "There is no such thing as a contract with this hotel. We've booked the rooms." Martin: what about corkage? Make sure they know that we are bringing our own supplies in, and they are _not_ to charge us for them. Rob: if they haven't mentioned corkage in their letter, write 'em a letter mentioning corkage and say that if they have a problem with this, answer within three days. Elise: make sure you have a couple music party spaces. Corey: "We've got three function rooms." Conscription [Fallcon] Budget, 1st Draft: Assumes: 100 attending, all at pre-reg rate (314) Income: $1,400 _Expenses_: $1,400 Break even Hotel: $60 (includes 6 of H rooms) Pubs: $175 6 of H rooms: 1; $100 Registration & Treasury: $75 Programming: $50 Parties: $350 Art Show & Hucksters: $50* Budget approved. Elise: "I think we have a convention." Martin: Bev Elmshauser, active in early MN-Stf, has expressed unhappiness on getting the weeding-the-mailing-list letter. Said that the Board, in 1974, had passed a resolution that several people, including her, would never be deleted. After discussion, it was agreed that someone should tell Bev that her place on the mailing list is safe. Martin: informal report on vague rumblings of fun on the horizon. Stay tuned to this station for further developments. [And phone in that pledge!] Elise: "I vote we buy 1% stock in whoever makes limeade." Bob: "I vote no." The Temporary Recording Secretary neglected to note the time of adjournment, but thinks this happened between 9:30 and 9:45. In any event, adjournment did occur. The September 20, 1990 Board meeting is no longer in session. *I've just noticed that these figures don't add up to $1,400. Perhaps I missed something.--EMH ================================================================================
