Ex-local Kij Johnson's Fudoki is a World Fantasy Award nominee for Best Novel

Locals listed as Honorable Mentions in The Year's Best Fantasy And Horror: 17th Annual Collection (ed. Ellen Datlow etc.) include Cezarija Abartis for "On Granmother's Farm" from Tales Of The Unanticipated #24; Eleanor Arnason for "On Seeing Bellni's Opera..." and "Song from the Kalevala," both also from TotU #24; Ruth Berman for "Tubishvat Ghost Story" from The Magazine Of Speculative Poetry; Neil Gaiman for "Bitter Grounds" from Mojo: Conjure Stories and for "Closing Time" from McSweeney's Mammoth Treasury Of Thrilling Tales; David Prill for "Big House on the Prairie" from Sci Fiction online and for "Carnyvore" from Dating Secrets Of The Dead; Howard Wandrei (posthumously) for "Diamondback" from The Eerie Mr. Murphy; and Laurel Winter for "Cracked Fortune" (from TotU #24).

Steven Brust's Sethra Lavode is #7 on the August Locus hc bestseller list, and #9 on the Barnes & Noble/B. Dalton list in the same issue.
