Minicon 14

Minicon 14 was held 9–11 April 1982 at the St. Paul Radisson. The guests of honor were John Varley (pro), Clifford D. Simak (fan), and Spider Robinson (musician). The executive committee was Don Bailey, Steve Bond, Reen Brust and Scott Imes.

The Number

Yes, Minicon 14 was in 1982, following Minicon 17. This is because "Minicon 14" was originally reserved for the fallcon following Minicon 13, much as Minicons 4 and 9 were fallcons. But then the fallcon committee decided to call their con Anokon instead, and the following springcon committee had already latched onto the name Minicon 15 and didn't want to change, so 14 got skipped. After 15, 16, and 17, we decided to come back and use 14…

Unsurprisingly, some internal materials mistakenly refer to the 1982 Minicon as "Minicon 18".

Membership

According to a detailed ledger found in 2017, there were 754 pre-registered adults, 20 pre-registered children and 100 (exactly) pre-registered supporting members, for a total pre-registration of 874. At the door, 180 more adults registered, along with 6 children. 72 of the suporting members converted and there were 5 more supports at the door. That makes a total membership of 1065. The warm body count is not known.
